Living Beyond Motherhood Brand

An authentic brand identity for a nonprofit focused on mothering

Living Beyond Motherhood is a therapist-founded nonprofit creating expert-informed spaces where women feel whole, connected, and supported — beyond the role of "mom." The mission is genuinely countercultural. The visual identity needed to match that.

The risk was falling into one of two traps: looking like a clinical mental health org (too cold) or looking like every soft-pink mom blog (too precious). Neither served women who are tired of being talked down to or tidied up.

Anti-shame. Anti-isolation. Pro-whole-woman.

The positioning needed a clear stake in the ground. LBM isn't anti-motherhood — it's anti-shrinking. That distinction shaped every voice guideline we developed, from how to open copy ("lead with permission") to what to avoid ("no perfect mom messaging, no diagnosis-y language").

The target audience — Millennial and Gen Z moms in Central Ohio who feel socially connected online but relationally starved in real life — needed a brand that met them exactly there. Capable, often eldest-daughter-coded, and done carrying it alone.

Belonging

The heartbeat. Women feel seen, included, and known — not evaluated or managed.

Three ideas that hold the whole brand together

Expansive identity

You don't go "back" after motherhood. You grow forward into a fuller version of yourself.

Joyful realism

Whimsy and lightness — without pretending things are easy or that anyone has it figured out.
